The Battle of Cerro Cora was the final engagement of the War of the Triple Alliance. Brazilian cavalry tracked down the last remnants of the Paraguayan army in the forests of northern Paraguay. President Francisco Solano Lopez was killed, reportedly declaring he was dying with his fatherland. Paraguay had lost an estimated 60-90% of its population in the catastrophic war.
