Battle of Tours

Charles Martel led a Frankish army against the Umayyad Caliphate's forces under Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi near Tours in central France. The Frankish heavy infantry held firm against repeated cavalry charges, and Abdul Rahman was killed in the fighting. The victory halted the northward expansion of Islam into Western Europe and established the Carolingian dynasty's prestige, eventually leading to the reign of Charlemagne.
