Battle of Hattin

Saladin lured the Crusader army under Guy of Lusignan into a waterless march toward the Horns of Hattin near the Sea of Galilee. Exhausted and dying of thirst, the Crusaders were surrounded and destroyed. Saladin captured the True Cross and most of the Crusader nobility. Within months, he recaptured Jerusalem and most of the Crusader states, shocking Christian Europe and triggering the Third Crusade.
