Battle of Djahy

Ramesses III met the Sea Peoples in a decisive land battle at Djahy on the Levantine coast, complementing his naval victory at the Nile Delta. The Sea Peoples advanced overland with ox carts carrying their families, suggesting a mass migration rather than a simple raid. Egyptian chariots and archers devastated the invaders' columns. Combined with the naval Battle of the Delta, this victory halted the Sea Peoples' advance and preserved Egypt as the sole surviving great power of the Late Bronze Age, while the rest of the eastern Mediterranean descended into a dark age.
