The combined Polish-Lithuanian army under King Wladyslaw II Jagiello and Grand Duke Vytautas decisively defeated the Teutonic Knights in one of medieval Europe's largest battles. The Teutonic Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen was killed along with much of the Order's leadership. The victory broke the Teutonic Knights' power permanently and established the Polish-Lithuanian union as a major European power for centuries to come.
