Battle of Mukden

The Battle of Mukden was the largest and most decisive land battle of the Russo-Japanese War, involving over 600,000 soldiers and making it the largest battle in world history up to that time. Japanese forces under Marshal Oyama executed a double envelopment of the Russian positions around Mukden, forcing a costly Russian retreat. The defeat, combined with the naval disaster at Tsushima, compelled Russia to accept peace terms and confirmed Japan's emergence as a major world power.
