The Siege of Osaka was the final conflict of Japan's Sengoku period, fought in two campaigns during the winter of 1614 and summer of 1615. Tokugawa Ieyasu besieged Osaka Castle, the stronghold of Toyotomi Hideyori, the young heir of the Toyotomi clan. The fall of Osaka Castle and the death of Hideyori eliminated the last threat to Tokugawa rule, ushering in over two centuries of peace under the Tokugawa Shogunate.
