What happened at the Battle of Saratoga?
The American victory at Saratoga was the turning point of the American Revolution. British General Burgoyne's army of 6,000 was surrounded and forced to surrender after two engagements. The victory convinced France to enter the war as an American ally, providing the military and financial support that would ultimately secure American independence.
Did you know?
Benedict Arnold, who led the critical charge at Saratoga, was shot in the same leg that had been wounded at Quebec. He later became America's most infamous traitor, making his heroism at Saratoga tragically ironic.
