Battles of the American Revolutionary War
6 battles
The major battles of the American Revolution in order, from Bunker Hill and Trenton to Saratoga and the British surrender at Yorktown.
The war in brief
The American Revolutionary War (1775 to 1783) was fought between Britain and the thirteen colonies that became the United States. Bunker Hill showed that colonial militia could stand against British regulars, at a heavy price to the attackers. Washington's night crossing of the Delaware and victory at Trenton saved the cause after a year of defeats. Saratoga, where a whole British army surrendered, brought France into the war, which turned a rebellion into a global conflict. Monmouth proved that the reformed Continental Army could fight in the open, Cowpens showed what a well-handled double envelopment could do, and Yorktown, with a French fleet blocking the sea, ended the war in all but name.
