The Duke of Marlborough and Prince Eugene of Savoy achieved a stunning victory over a larger French and Bavarian army on the banks of the Danube. Marlborough's bold cavalry charge across open ground split the Franco-Bavarian army in two, trapping thousands in the village of Blindheim. The victory shattered the myth of French military invincibility under Louis XIV, saved Vienna and the Holy Roman Empire, and established Britain as a major European military power.
