Admiral Horatio Nelson's bold tactics destroyed the combined French and Spanish fleet, securing British naval supremacy for over a century. Nelson's body was preserved in a barrel of brandy for the voyage home after Trafalgar. Sailors allegedly drilled a hole in the barrel and drank some, giving rise to the term 'tapping the Admiral.'
