Empires are founded on battlefields, and this collection follows the victories that built the largest of them. Alexander's run from the Granicus to Gaugamela created a Macedonian empire stretching to India; Zama gave Rome the western Mediterranean and Alesia gave it Gaul; Yarmouk and Badr carried the early caliphate out of Arabia; Panipat founded the Mughal Empire; Plassey began British rule in India; and Austerlitz, Wagram and Leipzig mark the rise and fall of Napoleon's.
